So much irony, I wouldn’t know where to start.

The good news is that it’s a cinch to get your FAA ATP. A first class medical, a simple written, took me 20 minutes. You might have to take a course now? Hardest part for me was filling the form out at the FSDO.

The FAA conversion for the ATP is a little harder these days.

What are the steps?

The five main things you need to do to convert your Canadian ATPL to an FAA ATP certificate are:

1. Make sure your Canadian license/medical are current;

2. Get an FAA medical;

3. Get your foreign license validated;

4. Take the ATP CTP course (potentially including a time-consuming TSA clearance);

5. Take the ACM knowledge test; and

6. Make an appointment with an inspector at an FSDO and bring required documents.

How much will it cost?

If you are paying for everything yourself, the estimated costs to convert your Canadian ATPL to an FAA ATP certificate are:

FAA Initial First Class Medical: $200
ATP CTP course: $3,999 to $5,999
TSA clearance: $130 (if required)
Fingerprints: $90 (if required)
FAA ACM knowledge test: roughly $175
Hotels and transportation as required
How long will it take?

Your ATP license conversion from Transport Canada to FAA will involve the following approximate timelines. If you’re in a hurry, I’d get on the items marked with an asterisk ASAP.

FAA medical: can vary; time it takes to get an appointment and travel to the closest FAA AME
Foreign license validation: up to six weeks *
TSA clearance (if required): six to eight weeks *
ATP CTP course: seven to eight days, plus travel time
FAA knowledge test: should be able to book within a few days
FSDO appointment: could vary greatly, but roughly one week

I was old school and did it before they changed the rules and made it way easier.
I later climbed the certificate ladder and thought about going back to Canada and getting the “booklet.”
I decided against it because it would really just be an exercise in giving Canada money that I would never get any use.

But yeah, good luck in the next few years.

Hey! Those are great certificates - based on foreign ICAO. For some reason they gave me an FAA COMM?

I think I had to write the FAA IFP for that? One weekend of study.

For the FAA ATP knowledge test, I just memorized the test bank. It was easier than learning the material.

And yeah, I’m looking forward to visiting Alberta without having to clear customs. It’s where I was born. Cold Lake. Maybe I can vote in the separation referendum.

I thought Washington, Oregon, and California were coming up. We could really simplify the shipping of tequila and avocados…

I’d be happy to trade Alberta for Portland, Seattle, LA, San Francisco and by association Sacramento.

I know Canadians think I'm a moron compared to them, but Canada badly needed an electoral college to avoid the mentally ill people in Toronto and Montreal from dictating to the rest of the disenfranchised nation, whom are now slowly, after decades and decades of abuse, finally leaving.

What I don't get is why Alberta stuck around after the National Energy Policy in 1980 from TrudeauV1. Do you know how many billions of dollars Albertans have paid since then, to elitist Laurentian assholes who laugh at the west and try to destroy it to please their Leftist Hollywood friends? Can I ask why it took Albertans 45 years to notice this?
